Val Theron is the General Manager of HEITSA and has been with the organisation since inception and is based in Cape Town. She is responsible for running the HEITSA office on a day to day basis as well as coordinating and managing various projects and activities that are of benefit to the Higher Education Information Technology sector in South Africa.

She started her IT career in 1989 as a developer and worked in the insurance industry before entering into higher education in 1998. Since then she has been managing SMEs in the sector or consulted directly to a number of universities. She serves on various committees representing the twenty six public universities of South Africa, including the Central Application System Technical Committee run by the Department of Higher Education and Training and the second Rural Campus Connectivity Project Steering Committee run by Universities South Africa (formerly HESA).
